Why Choose AutoZmotive for Your Tesla

Tesla-Aware Service

We understand Tesla's unique maintenance profile — regen braking, heavy vehicle weight, instant torque tire wear, and 12V battery separation from the main pack. We service what we can, and tell you clearly what we can't.

Professional Diagnostic Tools

Our diagnostic equipment reads Tesla OBD-II data for suspension, ABS, and accessory system fault codes. We don't have access to Tesla's proprietary Toolbox, but we diagnose what's available through standard channels.

No Tesla Service Center Backlog

Tesla Service Center appointments in Philadelphia can stretch weeks out for routine items like brakes and tires. We can often fit you in same-week for those services.

12-Month / 12,000-Mile Warranty

All parts and labor we install are backed by our warranty. Brake pads, rotors, calipers, suspension components — all covered.

Photo & Video Documentation

We photograph rotor rust, caliper condition, and tire wear patterns so you have a visual record of your Tesla's condition at each visit.

State Inspection Station

Licensed PA inspection station. Tesla state inspection at our $29.95 special rate — safety and emissions (EVs pass emissions automatically in PA).

Common Tesla Issues We See

Brake Caliper Corrosion

Regenerative braking means friction brakes see very little use, which is great for pad life — but bad for calipers and rotors. Moisture corrodes rotors and causes calipers to seize when rarely activated. We inspect caliper movement and rotor surface condition on every Tesla brake service.

Accelerated Tire Wear

Tesla vehicles are heavy (Model Y curb weight: ~4,400 lbs) and deliver instant torque at any speed. This combination wears tires faster than conventional vehicles, especially the rears on RWD and AWD models. We see rear tires on some Teslas worn below safe levels before 20,000 miles.

Front Lower Control Arm Wear

Model 3 and Model Y front lower control arms with rubber bushings wear relatively quickly, especially with Philadelphia's road conditions. Worn bushings cause clunking, uneven tire wear, and misalignment. We inspect and replace control arm assemblies.

12V Battery Failure

The 12V accessory battery is separate from the main pack and has a limited lifespan. A failing 12V battery can cause unexpected shutdowns, door lock failures, and warning messages. We test and replace 12V batteries on all Tesla models.

What We Don't Do (Honest)

Tesla owners need to know what requires a Tesla Service Center:

High-voltage battery pack diagnosis, repair, or replacement — this requires Tesla's proprietary Toolbox software and high-voltage safety certification.

Electric motor and powertrain work — the drive units require Tesla Service Center access and OEM tooling.

Over-the-air software updates and vehicle configuration changes — these are handled by Tesla remotely.

Warranty repairs covered under Tesla's vehicle warranty — these must go through Tesla Service Centers.

Autopilot and Full Self-Driving hardware or software issues — requires Tesla-proprietary access.

Tesla FAQ

Can an independent shop work on a Tesla?
Yes, for non-high-voltage work. Independent shops can service Tesla brakes, tires, suspension, cabin air filters, wiper blades, 12V batteries, and brake caliper corrosion. High-voltage battery, motor, and powertrain work requires Tesla Service Centers.
My Tesla uses regenerative braking. Why do the brakes still need service?
Regenerative braking reduces pad wear significantly, but the rotors and calipers still corrode from moisture — especially in Philadelphia winters. Because the friction brakes are used less often, surface rust builds up on rotors and calipers can seize. We inspect and service Tesla brakes to prevent expensive caliper failures.
How often do Tesla tires wear out?
Teslas are heavy vehicles with instant torque, which wears tires faster than most comparable-sized vehicles. Many Tesla owners see front tires wear in as little as 15,000–25,000 miles. Regular rotation (every 6,250 miles per Tesla's recommendation) extends life significantly. We perform Tesla tire rotations.
What is the 12V battery and does it need replacement?
All Teslas have a 12V accessory battery separate from the main traction battery. It powers lights, locks, and electronics when the car is off. Model S and X use lead-acid 12V batteries that typically last 3–4 years. Model 3 and Y use lithium-ion 12V batteries with longer life. We can test and replace the 12V battery.
